The Modern Caravaggio

Roberto Ferri was born in 1978 in Taranto, Italy. He graduated from art school in 1996, then moved to Rome in 1999 to study ancient painting techniques. In 2006, he graduated with honors from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome.

Working in solitude, Ferri absorbed the methods of Baroque masters, particularly Caravaggio. His paintings merge classical academic techniques with surrealist imagery, creating hauntingly beautiful works where flesh meets metal, where angels bleed, and mythology collides with modern darkness.

His career reached new heights when he was commissioned to portray Pope Francis, creating two works now displayed in privileged places in the Vatican. He exhibited at the Venice Biennale 2011, and today his work hangs in major private collections worldwide.

His talents: Hyperrealistic anatomical precision, masterful chiaroscuro technique, expert use of underpainting and glazing, and the ability to fuse academic tradition with surrealist symbolism.

Greatest achievements: Vatican commissions for papal portraits, Venice Biennale exhibition, and reviving Baroque painting techniques for contemporary audiences.
